Tillie Burgin Day

Proclamation from the Office of Mayor Robert N. Cluck, Arlington, TX

WHEREAS Tillie Burgin has been the Executive Director of Mission Arlington/Mission Metroplex for 18 years; and

Tillie has led a lifetime of learning, graduating from Arlington High School in 1954, and earning multiple degrees from North Texas State University and Texas Christian University, as well as an honorary Doctorate of Humanities from Dallas Baptist University in 1999; and

WHEREAS: before her important work with Mission Arlington/Mission Metroplex, Tillie had a career in education with the Arlington Independent School District and completed two mission trips to Korea, working in education and with women’s groups; and

WHEREAS: Mission Arlington/Mission Metroplex, which began as a Bible study ministry to Arlington apartment complexes, is now a full-scale assistance program, providing services from after-school care to sports facilities, including job assistance, addiction recovery, homeless services, a food pantry and medical and dental clinics; and

WHEREAS: the work done by Tillie Burgin and the workers of Mission Arlington/Mission Metroplex, make the City of Arlington a better place to live for all of our citizens, those who receive assistance, those who give assistance, and those who do both.

NOW, THEREFORE I, Dr. Robert N. Cluck, Mayor of the City of Arlington, Texas, and on behalf of the Arlington City Council, do hereby proclaim April 6, 2004 as TILLIE BURGIN DAY
